Tatas may launch electric Indica by early 2011 (Indica Electric EV)

New Delhi, Nov. 24:

With many automakers planning to launch eco-friendly vehicles for the domestic market, Tata Motors said on Tuesday that it may launch the electric version of the small car Indica in early 2011.

The company has been developing the car with Norway-based Miljøbil Grenland/Innovasjon, in which it has a 50.3 per cent stake. It plans to start a feasibility study for this in the next year and may launch the car simultaneously with the European launch.

"It will be available for India at around the same time as the global launch. It will be launched in Norway, Denmark and the UK in 12-14 months. We’re evaluating the option of an Indian launch, but are still not sure if the electric vehicles (EVs) are the best option for the country,” said Mr Prakash M Telang, Managing Director, India Operations, Tata Motors.

He further added that the main problem is the high cost attached to EVs, which is mainly because of the expensive batteries. “It will be 70-150 per cent more expensive depending on batteries. While lead acid batteries are not good enough, lithium-ion is too expensive. We have to look into the cost equation,” he said.

Responding to sales outlook for the remaining half of the fiscal, Mr Telang said that the shift from Bharat Stage III emission norms to Bharat Stage IV in April, may lead to good sales in the fourth quarter.

“There is optimism – I see good sales in the fourth quarter. In commercial vehicles (CVs), there may be pre-buying because of the change in emission norms. Even passenger cars may see better volumes, but not as much as CVs since price escalation will not be as much in them. This has been the experience in most countries across the globe,” he said.

Automakers and especially commercial vehicle manufacturers are expected to raise prices from April, because of the newer engines that companies will have to deploy on their vehicles in order to meet the new emission norms.

When asked about the status of the Nano’s Sanand plant, Mr Telang said that the company is producing around 3,000-4,000 units of the low-cast car a month at the Pantnagar facility and it will start the trial production at Sanand by the fourth quarter of the fiscal. The Sanand plant will have an initial annual capacity of 2.5 lakh units a year, which will later be increased to 3.5 lakh units. The Pantnagar plant mainly produces the light commercial vehicle (LCV) Ace.

“We’re striving between the Ace requirement and the Nano. The plant has a capacity to produce 1.5 lakh Ace LCVs a year,” he said.

Rajinikath’s ‘Robot’ to Touch 165 crore

Director shankar always does a big budget projects and he is certainly one of the untouched directors of Indian cinema. He is directing a Rajinikanth’s upcoming science-fiction ‘Endhiran’ (Robot in Telugu), which was thought to be made at a budget of about Rs 100 crore, seems to cost much more than estimated. It is said that the film may now exceed a massive budget of Rs 165 crore. This is undoubtedly the highest budget film ever made in the Indian cinema. The buzz is that the cost of one particular song in the film had reached Rs 30 crore.

‘Robot’ has south Indian superstar Rajinikanth romancing former miss world Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Action king Arjun is said to play a key role in the film. J D Chakravarthy is playing the role of the villain for this magnum opus. The film is set for 2010 release. The films background score and music is composed by Oscar award winner A R Rahman.

Want To Try Out Google Chrome OS For Yourself ? Here’s How

The public debut of Google Chrome OS today has the press abuzz over the potential of the new web-based operating system. And now that it’s open sourced, you have the chance to try it out for yourself. Unfortunately, most people aren’t ready to undertake the daunting task of actually taking Google’s recently open-sourced code and turning that into a bootable computer. So we’ve put together a step-by-step guide to doing this, for free, in around 15 minutes (depending on how long it takes to download the OS itself). No, this won’t get your computer booting Chrome OS natively (and frankly, you probably wouldn’t want to yet anyway). But it will get it up and running in a virtual machine using the free software VirtualBox, which is available for Macs, PCs, and Linux.
First, a few caveats: we didn’t create the Chrome OS build ourselves — it was downloaded from BitTorrent. In theory it could possibly have been tweaked by some malicious hacker to steal your Google account information (this is unlikely, but who knows). There’s an easy fix if you’re worried though: just go make a throwaway Gmail account, and use that to play around with the OS. Also note that because this is running in a virtual machine, you’re probably not going to be seeing great performance (like that 7 second boot time). But it’s more than good enough to get a feel for the OS for yourself.

First, you need to get an image of Chrome OS. You can do that using this torrent. You can also try out the build that GDGT has uploaded, which worked fine in our test as well. If you get the torrent version, you’ll see it’s in a .BZ2 format. You’ll need to extract it. Macs should be able to do this automatically, but for Windows you may need a tool like Win Rar.
Once that’s done, download a version of VirtualBox for whatever OS you’re running on here and install it. After registering (or declining to) you’ll be met with a screen like this. Click the button that says “New” in the upper left hand corner. We’re going to be making a new virtual machine.:

You’ll enter a wizard like this. Hit next.

Go ahead and title the OS whatever you’d like. For the operating system, choose Linux, with Ubuntu as the version (other setups could potentially work, but this is the only one we’ve gotten working).

Choose how much memory to allocate to this virtual machine. This will be dependent on how much memory you have in your computer. The more, the better, but if you choose too much your real computer will become unstable/very slow.

Here’s the tricky part (fortunately it isn’t very tricky). You don’t want to create a new hard disk, instead, you want to use an existing hard disk. Don’t choose one from the drop down menu either — you’re going to want to hit the folder icon just to the right of that to enter the ‘virtual media manager’.

Hit the ‘Add’ button.

Now you have to find the Chrome OS image you downloaded earlier. This is probably on your desktop or in your downloads folder. Once you’ve found it, hit ‘Open’.

Hit ‘Select’ once you reach this window.

Almost there. Make sure ‘use existing hard disk’ is checked. Hit next.

Hit ‘Finish’

You’re done! Hit Start. Hopefully the screen will go black, but only for a little while (this could be anywhere from 10 seconds to a minute or so, depending on how fast your computer is).

Once you’re in, you’ll see a splash screen for ‘Chromium’ (which is what Google calls dev builds of Chrome). To login, you’ll need to enter a valid Google Account ID. Your standard Gmail account should work, but as we said before, this build of ChromeOS came from bittorrent, so you may want to use a throw away account like we did in the screenshots below (you can make one here).

You’re in. Now time to explore. To be honest, everything looks quite similar to Google’s Chrome browser, but there are a few key differences. Note the battery life indicator and options menu in the far upper right. Also try playing around with the ‘New Window’ functions — you’ll find that it’s difficult (if not impossible) to navigate between multiple windows. And be wary of the Bookmarks manager. As far as I can tell, there’s no easy way to get out of it — you’ll have to manually create a new bookmark, which will kick you back into the browser mode once you click it. Oh, and good luck finding the ’shut down’ button, because we sure can’t.

You probably won’t need it, but the shared user password for this install (which you’d need for functions like sudo) is ‘chromeos’ according to the torrent’s listing on ThePirateBay.

It is well-known that Villagelo Vinayakudu, which released on Thursday, is fast catching the imagination of the audience in India and abroad (especially the US). Since beginning, producer Mahi and director Adivi have been coming up with unique publicity ideas to promote their "manchi Chandamama katha lanti cinema." Barrie Osborne’s masterpiece on Prophet Muhammad

A magnum opus is being filmed on Muhammad Ibn Abdullah, the founder of the religion of Islam and is regarded by Muslims as a messenger and prophet of God. The film is produced with a whooping budget of 150 millions by Hollywood producer Barrie M. Osborne, according to the announcement made in Qatar.

So, the Oscar-winning American producer is set to go on with his big-screen biopic of the Prophet Muhammad. According to sources, Osborne wants to show the real meaning of Islam and bridge the gap between cultures. We learn that the film will reportedly feature English-speaking Muslim actors.

This untitled film is due to come before the camera by 2011. Osborne will be producing this film for a newly formed Qatar-based company Alnoor Holdings. “Qatar-based Sunni cleric Sheikh Yusuf Qaradawi, head of the Association of Muslim Scholars, will lead the research and serve as technical consultant on the project,” said the sources.

"I am inspired by this opportunity to bring such epic entertainment to the world and excited by the chance to inspire and enlighten by bringing the story of one of history’s greatest figures to audiences around the world,” said the Hollywood producer.

A very tricky thing in producing a biopic on the prophet is that, many Muslims believe that the Islamic law forbids the visual depiction of ‘Muhammad’ or ‘God the Almighty’ in any medium. So, making a film without showing the prophet is a big challenge.

There are many films on Jesus Christ and other Gods but no one has ever tried to touch Islam. Let’s see what comes out now...

While the flood relief measures have been going in an intense manner, the Movie Artistes Association (MAA) has decided to come up with a Star Night. The initiative has been taken by Nandamuri Balakrishna and the date has been fixed as November 7th while the venue is the Gachibowli stadium.

The proceeds of this would be going to the flood relief victims. Recently, the first meeting in this regard was held at Jayabheri and present during the event were almost all the biggies of the film industry.

Many recalled the times when the legendary N T Rama Rao and ANR used to travel throughout in fund collection during such situations. Get ready for this entertainment and noble cause folks.

Fat man wins hearts once again

The Review

Though it’s a small film Village Lo Vinayakudu stands out with its simplicity like Vinayakudu. It’s not a great film or the best film but it is good film wit no scope for violence and vulgarity. It’s a decent family entertainer. The music, the cinematography and the dialogues are the highlights of the film. The songs are decently shot. The negative side is its pace and the mass punch is missing in the screenplay. First half of the film bores wit dragging here and there but second half is good. On the whole, it is an okay and decent film.

Synopsis

Teacher Karthik (Krishnudu) falls in love with medico Kavya (Saranya Mohan), who also starts loving him. When she tells about her love to her father, he says okay but he doesn’t want is daughter to marry this fat guy. Her father asks friend Bhaskaram’s to help in getting rid of Karthik. Bhaskaram’s silly ideas further complicate things further for Karthik. How Karthik did finally convinced Kavya’s father is all about the rest of the story.

Artistic Performances

Krishnudu easily carried the character like he did in Vinayakudu. He lives up to the expectations and justifies his character. Saranya Mohan is okay. Her performance is good but her looks are just average. As retired military man, Rao Ramesh comes out with good performance. Yandamuri Veerendranath is disappointing may be his characterization is not good. All other actors justified their roles.

Technical Performances

The story is very simple and so the narration. The simplicity in the story is the strength but the slow paced screenplay is the problem. The pacing in the second half is good but it is in the first half the slow pace bores sometimes. The direction is neat and the director Saikiran Adivi executed the scenes neatly. The highlight of the film is, it’s clean and good with no vulgarity and violence. Music by Manikant Khadri is the other strength. Cool and nice music. The other strengths are the cinematography and dialogues. Cinematographer Rams beautifully captured the village. All other departments justified their role.

Star Night's Theme Song CD Released

In a function organised at the Producers' Council hall, the audio of the theme song meant for the November 7 Star Night was released. The function was attented by Dr. Dasari Narayana Rao, hero Balakrishna, veteran Murali Mohan and others like Atchi Reddy, Raja Sekhar, Jeevitha, Shivaji Raja, N Shankar, Tammareddy Bharadwaja, Ali, AVS, Ashok Kumar. It was a low-key affair that probably worked as an introduction to a gala night on Saturday.

Balakrishna said, "Everyone in the filmdom is helping for the cause. I find the theme song is very good. Ananth Sri Ram's lyrics are brilliant and Keeravani has rendered fantastic tunes."

Dasari spoke high about the impending event, saying, "The star night on the 7th will see coming together of 14 music directors to play the song on the dias. Artistes belonging to Hindi, Tamil and Kannada will be present for the event. We are expecting to rake in Rs. 3.50 crore and over for the flood victims."
